Digest Vol. 159: Expensive lesson

Not much interesting news. Almost no new stuff. Barely progressed in eroge. And wasted quite a lot of money.

New stuff

Only stuff this week. Wasn’t sure whether or not to get the left one but apparently the line up is good enough for me to get one. Apparently it is. So I did. Relatively good stuff inside. 100% flats sure helped as well.

There should be pillow cover coming up later this weekend. Not sure if there’s anything else.

Eroge playthrough

Barely progressed after weekend but at least finished Kohaku route last weekend.

Non-eroge stuff

FGO event. Finished almost a week early. Got second Okita alter after some more tens of pulls.

As for anime, still backlogged on everything.

Daily life

Sold one pillow cover and three tapestries. 20k with net loss of 4k. Not too bad.

Apparently I didn’t learn my lesson enough and ended up buying more stuff to be resold again =D

Put up some more stuff for auction. Need to put up some more. I’ve separated them but never gotten around to prepare them thanks to things I did this whole week. Maybe this weekend or next week.

There wasn’t much stuff bought apart of Reina pillow cover.

The budget thing has been cleared up. Now I’m at 30k surplus to be carried over to next month. Base wasting allocation is at around… 30k. Uh, yeah. At least I have 120k spare for next month thanks to this month’s auction. Yay. I need to save for August though.

CPU, graphics card, and operating system

So two weeks ago I mentioned about getting graphics card for mining. That I did. Then I learned AMD doesn’t provide driver for Windows 8.1. So I upgraded to Windows 10 (or more like used my backup of previous install).

I found out using two graphics cards doesn’t help. The mining card still affects desktop rendering. At least the impact wasn’t too bad so I figured I should just run it by itself.

It didn’t last long though. It’s Windows 10. The whole thing just doesn’t feel right.

So I did machine swap with server. Only to be reminded the server doesn’t provide full power for its PCI-e slot. At least I have another unused PC which can run the thing. After some adjustment in the case (removing fan because it hits the graphics card), Windows 7 is installed and all. And then I start mining. Then find out the impact is too much. Everything using GPU slows down.

On server side, Ryzen and FreeBSD aren’t quite compatible with each other either so it hangs every few hours. There seems to be some workaround but I figured I should wait a bit more to use this CPU and OS combination.

At least the spare PC (Fujitsu TX100 S3p) seems to be better than the previous server (Dell PowerEdge T110 II). It has more fans, easier HDD installation, less noise, and better network cards with two Intel chips vs Broadcom (onboard) and Realtek (PCI-e).

GPU mining plan is cancelled as well and I’ve restored Windows Server 2012 R2 for my desktop with GTX 950 graphics card.

The remaining components will be put up for auction. Hopefully not too much loss.

On unrelated note, I noticed my HP Z210 CMT should be able to fit the 5 HDD bays drive cage in its 3x 5.25″ bays. The drive cage itself is a bit too expensive at the moment but I set up alert in auction hoping someone put it up for cheap so I can try it and have a nice 8 drives NAS.

And that’s the expensive lesson I had this week ;_;

And also why I only able to write this now.

Closing words

Back to eroge.
